Men’s April Mid Week Medal

84 starters for our mid-week medal day. Sadly only 81 finishers, bit of a slow day out there. This makes it tough for all, Wayne Muir in particular, who does all the entering for the day, he doesn’t get to go home until all that is done on top ofpresentations and raffles. So come on gents keep the play up to speed, there are a loft of bad effects for slow play which are not appreciated. If stroke play is not your thing, have a rest day at home not on the course.

The day’s results were –

Div 1

Winner was David Von Itzstein with a 68 nett from Jared Brown on a 71 nett.

Div 2

Winner was Cem Okan on a count back from Keith Cooper both with 68 nett and Owen McCallum finished a close third also on 68. Tough school that Div 2.

Run down went to 73 nett.

Pin Shots

2nd – Dave (well-oiled machine from Div 2) Harrod and House

7th – Kyle Harrison and John Edwards

12th – Greg Morrison and Cem Okan

16th – Patrick Hayes and Dave Harrod (2 pin shots, probably worth a red).

Pro pin went to Cem Okan for $72. Nice day out Cem.

The raffles went to – Wayne (Mr Raffles) Muir x 1, Dave Harrod (definitely Red o’clock) x 1 and John Mason x 2.

Saturday is Monthly medal (stroke), see opening comments above.

Fairway – An unfamiliar tract of closely mowed grass running from tee to green. Your ball is normally found to the left or right of it.

Hit it hard and hope you find it.

Men’s Open Day 13/04/24

Two person Ambrose, 108 starters. As Millsy would say, “That’s what I’m talking about”. Good weather, great turn out and a good day out on the course. All good.

The big event, which was our invitation day for the 40-year anniversary was well supported by our own members and some eight visitors.

Winners were Dave Killion and Captain Tink (probably had some local knowledge) with a nett 60.5.

Runners up were Nathan Simpson and Liam Henzel with a nett 63.

Run down went to a very generous 67.

I wonder if any of the above had a putt from behind the hole on the 9th. Terrifying.

Pin shots

2nd – Brian (Dusty) Springfield and Ed Brierley

7th – Pat (Mr Sec/ Mr Captain) Tregellas and Daniel Lawler

12th – Stuart (starting to make a habit of these) Smart and Michael Davies

16th – Jimmy (number 3) Wood and Kerrod Kirkham

Pro pin of a very nice $100 went to Stuart Smart

Raffles – # 93

Trevor Neil x 1 and Number 3 (see above) x 7 onya Jimmy.

Have you checked out the Memorabilia Room yet? A nice little journey down memory lane. It will be open all comp days until the end of the month.

It takes longer to learn good golf than it does brain surgery.

On the other hand, you don’t get to ride around on a cart, drink beer, eat and yahoo while performing brain surgery.

Hit it hard and hope you find it.

2024 Matchplay Championships

It’s that time of year again, so this weeks Monthly Medal will double as the qualifier for the Championship.

To qualify, you must write “MPQ” on your card. The top 16 net scores will qualify and an elimination draw and tee times will be posted for the first round starting on Saturday the 20th.

Please see myself of Wayne for any questions. Best of luck gets and lets see if Sir Simon Gates can back it up again. I have a sneaky dollar or two on him.

AGM Medley Stableford

Only 67 starters for our pre-AGM game. The early start must have scared players off.

It turned out to be a tough day out there, judging by the scores and the number of players way down in the scoring. Probably caused by the excitement of an AGM later in the day. That’s our excuse anyway.

Div 1

Winner – Mark James – 39 points

R/Up – Mick Kemp (pity about the 18th) – 38 points

Div 2

Winner – Jimmy (long time no see) Cardoo – 36 points

R/Up – Greg (Mr Consistency) Morrison – 35 points

Run downs went to a very generous 31 points.

Pin Shots

2nd – Les Browning and Colleen Kelly

7th – Bryan Penny, Nick Davis and Katrina (The VP) Springfield

12th – Mike McKay, Owen McCallum and Katrin Springfield (again)

16th – Brendon Marshall and Nick Davis (again)

The Pro pin went to Mike McKay (20cm) did he get the putt? Of course he did. $63.

The raffles went to a couple of battlers – Paul (Mr Westpac) Quinlan x 2 and Brent McLennan (The Prez) x 3 a popular result I’m led to believe.

The AGM went very well afterwards with the committee remaining unchanged as there were no challengers to the incumbents. Next committee meeting 26th of March at 1700.

40 year opening day on the 7th of April at 1100. We currently have around 45 people attending but would like more. Please let us know if you are coming or you may miss out on food, refreshments and a good day.

The greatest sound in golf is the woosh, woosh, woosh of your opponent’s club as he hurls it across the fairway.

Which brings us to the Pennants golf just around the corner. Team nominations are up for interested names. Forms are above the computer’s in the Island House.

Hit it hard and hope you find it.

President Brent and Captain Tink.
