Men’s Golf Wednesday 28/4/21

78 players took to the course with beautiful weather, but the weather didn’t last. As the last of the morning field left the last green they told the weather Gods to “let it rain”, and rain it did for a good 25 minutes, and the scores for the afternoon field showed that.

Winners today were, Max and Mark Jessop with 74, Runner’s up were Phil Coles and David Kammer 68 on count back. Rundown went to 62.

If anyone has an issue with anything on the course, if it be a play ruling or course issue, contact one of your Committee members. I try to get myself around to see everyone, mixing myself between the Vets, coming in early on some Wednesday and Saturday mornings while playing in the afternoon field. Our Committee is Myself , Allan Danks, Wayne Muir and our new member for the morning field is Michael Tink-Hornett. If you do want to speak to us, wait until we are off the course, we will be happy to speak to you before and after our round but not while we are playing. Let us enjoy our game.

Joke of the day

As he is walking his dog one weekday afternoon, Fred, the bookie, “gamblers love to hate”, see’s a young man on the local course. Fred stops for a moment to watch him tee off and stays for longer when he see’s that the boy has talent. Indeed, the boy has holed his tee shot. Fred is about to call out his congratulations when the boy tees up again and once more holes-in-one. Now Fred, never one to let an opportunity pass, walks up to the youngerster, congratulates him and asks, ” How old are you, lad?” “Eleven, sir,” the young boy replies. “Anyone else here seen you play?” Fred enquiries. Having received the assurance that no one has, Fred proposes a match the very next day, with the club Champion lined up against the young boy. The odds are handsome : 10/1 against the new young player. The boy, however, takes 11 at the first hole and goes around the rest of the course in much the same way. Of course, he loses badly. “Fred is furious”. You’ve made me look like a right fool”. “What’s the idea of pretending you can’t play?” says Fred. “Listen, old man”, the youngster whispers, “Next week, you’ll get 100/1”.
