I’ve just been informed that this year’s Pennant competition has been cancelled. A number of clubs have notified NRGA that their course is unavailable due to the damage that the floods have caused.

MENS GOLF SATURDAY 30/4/22

81 players teed off today, which was a great field after early morning showers.

We are having issues with slow play. The first group out in the afternoon teed off 25 minutes after their allotted tee time. Please keep the group in front of you in sight. Have the shorter hitters hitting of first, once 2 players have putted, have those 2 players to move to the tee and tee off first. Let’s keep the game moving.

The Pennant Teams have been decided , and our Captain’s have been selected, and they are Team 1, Terry Foster, Team 2, Kevin Haddrick, Team 3, Wayne Muir, and Team 4, Paul Quinlin. The draw is being done on Monday, and I will post the draws as soon as I receive it. We will also have a evening, hopefully on Thursday 12th May, where we will hand out our shirts, and for those who didn’t play last year, their caps and we can talk about the rules.

Joke of the day

As he is lining up a putt, Kevin’s phone starts to ring. He checks and she’s that it is his wife calling. Kevin answers, “What! I’m putting, what do you want?” His wife answers, “The airbags work,” and hangs up.

Joke of the day

Perc, complained to his friend and golf partner, a Doctor, that he couldn’t sleep. The Doctor told him that when he went to bed to play a great round of golf in his mind, to help him relax. On the next outing, the Doc asked how it went. Perc said he hit a great a great drive on the first tee, hit a long iron to 6 feet, and made the birdie putt. On the following par 5, he hit the best drive of his life, followed by a massive 3 wood to set up Eagle. The Doc replied, well that had to really relax you so you could get to sleep. Perc rebuffed, saying that unfortunately, he sliced his next tee shot into the woods, and he was up all night looking for it.

Joke of the day

Lady Luck wasn’t kind to Dave. Although he had a real zest for life, he was constantly beset by bad luck. He loved Poker, but Poker did not love him. He played the Stock market with great anticipation, but always seemed to be the one who brought high and sold low. His life seemed to be full of more downs than ups. His greatest delight was his Golf game. Not that Dave was a great golfer, in fact, he never managed to break 100, but the odd shot, that some how ended up in the general area he had in mind, was enough to keep his hopes alive. Finally, Dave became ill and passed away. But just before he died, he asked that his remains be Cremated, and his ashes scattered just of the fairway on the ninth hole of his home course. Accordingly, a gathering assembled to carry out Dave’s wishes. It was a bright sunny day, and was going well. Then, as the ashes were being strewn, a gust of wind came up and blew Dave out of bounds.

Joke of the day

Bob teed up on the First Hole, and on his down swing, he noticed his wife teeing up on the Ladies tee just ahead. Unable to pull out of the swing, he “Crushed” his drive straight into the back of her head, killing her instantly. Two days later, Bob was talking to the Coroner. “Robert, your Wife died of Blunt Force Trauma to the head.” The Coroner said. “You say you hit your golf ball into her head?” “That’s correct,” Bob responded. “I see, can you explain why we found a golf ball up her backside?” The Coroner asked. “Was it a Titleist 3?” Bob asked. “Yes, as a matter of fact , it was,” the Coroner responded. “Ah, that would’ve been my Provisional ball,” Bob said.

MENS GOLF SATURDAY 16/4/22

We had a Single Stableford event today, 2 Divisions. Sorry about the short notice of changing the event from Monthly Medal to Single Stableford. With no carts or scooters allowed on Friday, I thought it best to change it, as showers during the day didn’t look good for Saturday. And also with Preferred Lie through the Green, I thought it was the way to go.

We had 70 players today, and with only 5 players breaking or equalling par this showed the course was playing tough.

Division 1 winner was Jeff Hensby (12) 42pts. Runner up Ian Strange (15) 38pts.

Division 2 winner was David Harrod (24) 36pts. Runner up Frank Watego (19) 34pts.

Rundown went to 33pts.

NTP’S Division 1 2nd Ray Mills, 7th Michael Kemp, 12th Luke Wallis, 16th Kevin Bartlett.

Division 2 2nd House, 7th Greg Morrison, 12th Wayne Muir, 16th Michael Walsh.

Pro Pin Michael Kemp $63.00.

Bazza’s Birdie Blitz was won by Jeff Hensby Voucher $20

Banora Point Real Estate Lucky Draw Mark James $20

Raffle Winners were Wayne Howlett $75, Wayne Muir $25, Mark Kenny $25.

Wednesday Golf 20th April Single Stableford 2 Divisions. Pro Pin 12th hole.

Joke of the day

Big Wayne addressed his ball. He took a magnificent swing. Something however went wrong and a horrible slice resulted. The ball went onto the adjoining fairway and hit a man full force. He dropped. Wayne and his partner rushed up to the stricken victim, who lay unconscious with the ball between his feet. “Good heavens” exclaimed Wayne, “What should I do?” “Don’t move him,” said his playing partner. “If we leave him here, he becomes an immovable obstruction, and you can either play the ball as it lies or take a free drop.”

MENS GOLF WEDNESDAY 13/4/22

What a beautiful day for golf, but didn’t we get fooled. The morning field got through before the dreaded rain returned. The first group in the afternoon got halfway through the back nine, and we started to get annoying drizzle, but later the heaven’s opened up, and the last 3 to 4 groups got smashed. But it was still great to get back to what we have been missing, for the last couple of weeks.

Anyone wishing to play Pennant golf, please put your name on the list in the scoring room. There is not long before the names have to be sent to the NRDGA, for the draw to be done.

This Saturday we have the April Monthly Medal. 3 Divisions, and our Pro Pin is on hole 7.

Our new scoring system is not far away, about 7 weeks, if not sooner.

The White notice board, just before you go over the bridge, has the daily rules. With the weather the way it has been lately, the course status could change each day. So check the board before you cross the bridge, it might make your game easier.

Today’s event was a Single Stableford, 2 Divisions. 91 players.

Winners today were Division 1. Nico Neidhart (16) 39pts. Runner up Kevin Bartlett (16) 38pts c/B.

Division 2 Wayne Howlett (20) 41pts. Runner up Ross Telfer (20) 39pts.

Ball rundown went to 33pts.

NTP’S Division 1. 2nd Ray Mills. 7th Dave Von Itzstein. 12th Dave Von Itzstein. 16th Wayne Stone.

Division 2. 2nd David Kammer. 7th Peter Hulett. 12th Mark James. 16th Nathan Smith..

Pro Pin was won by Dave Von Itzstein $82.

Bazza’s Birdie Blitz was won by Nico Neidhart Voucher $20.

If you win a Birdie Blitz Voucher, ask at the counter for your card

Today’s Raffle winners were Bill McClatchey $50, Perc Dempsey $25.

Just got word that the “Sunday Morning Social Club” are looking for new members, they tee off between 6.30 am and 7am. If you are interested in having a go, get down to the Island house and have a talk to Will Salter or Wayne Woodford to find out more.

Joke of the day.

Sal was playing his weekly round of golf. He began his round with an Eagle on the first hole, and a Birdie on the Second hole. On the third hole, he had just scored his first ever Hole-in-one, when his a phone rang. It was a Doctor notifying him that his Wife had just been in an Accident. She was in a Critical condition in ICU. Sal told the Doctor to inform his wife where he was, and that he’d be there as soon as possible. As he hung up he realized he was leaving what was shaping up to be his best ever round of golf. He decided to get in a couple more holes before heading to the Hospital.

He ended up playing all 18 holes, finishing his round, shooting a personal best 61, shattering the Club record by 3 strokes, and beating his previous best round by more than 10 strokes. He was Jubilant. Then he remembered his wife. Feeling guilty, he dashed to the Hospital. He saw the Doctor in the corridor, and asked about his wife’s condition. The Doctor glared at him and shouted. “You went ahead and finished your round, Didn’t you?. I hope you’re proud of yourself! While you were out for the past 4 hours, enjoying yourself at the Club, your wife has been Languishing in the ICU. The Doctor continued, “It’s just as well you went ahead and finished that round, because it will be more than likely your last! For the rest of her life, she will require around the clock care, and you will be her Caregiver.! She will need It. You will have to change her Colostomy bag every three hours. She will have to be spoon-fed three times a day and don’t forget you will have to bathe her! Sal broke down and sobbed.

The Doctor chuckled and said, “I’m just messing with you. She’s going to be fine. What did you shoot”.
