Men’s Gold Wednesday 28/02/24

Men’s Golf Wednesday 21st and Saturday 24th February

A small kerfuffle for the week just gone so you get two blogs for the price of one.

Wednesday 21st – 4P Ambrose

23 teams tried their luck (skill?) with the winners being the red-hot side of Wayne Woodford, Pat Tregellas, Gary Dowding and Ray (Perpetual motion) Price, with a very nice 54 nett.

Runners up with an unlucky 57 nett were Col Norton, Patrick Hayes, Nimai Strickland and Chris Brown. Run down went to 59 nett.

Pin shots –

2. Shane Vanderlight (How did that happen)

7. Alan Simpson and also the pro pin ($78) – that makes a nice day out.

12. Ben Mitchell

16. Nick (go the Broncos) Davis

Raffles went to Peter Edwards x 2 and Derryk Russell x 3.

The question was asked why don’t all team members receive pin shot balls and the answer is –

1. Everyone gets a shot at it.

2. Ambrose days are close to the bone days with all prizes (winners, runners up and run downs) all by 4

Hope that makes sense and answers the question.

Saturday 24th – Single Stableford

Small field possibly brought about by people believing the weather forecasters. Didn’t happen.

72 starters but not 72 finishers were there, Jimmy and group?

Div 1 was won by Ray (now your talking) Mills with 41 points and runner up Ryan Murphy with 40 points.

Div 2 was won by Michael Barnett on a count back from Nick (go the Broncs) Davis (37 points). This was a tight tussle as there were 4 players on 37.

Run downs went to 34 points all in.

Pin shots –

2nd – Mark Kenny & Nick (gtb) Davis

7th – Nathan Simpson & Brandon Stockwell

12th – El Capitano (Tink) & House

16th – John Faust & Des Scott

The Raffles – Dave Wallace x 3 and Nick (gtb, could also be ‘go to bug—’) Davis

Reminders –

1. Next week Monthly Medal

2. AGM 16th of March at 2.00pm at ‘Slice and Fork’ curtained area. This will be preceded by a medley stableford 8.00am shotgun start. Time sheet will be out shortly so don’t forget to book in.

It’s amazing how a golfer, who never helps out around the house, will replace his divots, repair his ball marks, and rake his sand traps. (He obviously plays at some other course than this)

Hit it hard and hope you find it.

President Brent and Captain Tink.

Men’s Golf Saturday 17/02/24

28 dedicated golfers hit the soggy course on Saturday with only 3 in the arvo session for a Single Stableford.

Some handy scores were presented though, with Simon Gates (41 points) winning the day from Patrick Hayes (40 points). The run down went to 35 points all in.

The pin shots went to –

2nd – Patrick Hayes

7th – Nimai Strickland

12th – Pat Tregellas

16th – Joel Davies

Pro pin – Joel Davies ($27 someone’s holding out)

Raffle – Anthony Mike took all the chocolates today $100

Reminders – AGM 16th of March @ 2.00pm.

40 year opening 7th of April 11.00am RSVP to Secretary asap for catering.

When you stop to think about it, did you ever notice that it’s a lot easier to get up at 6:00 a.m. to play golf than at 10:00 to mow the yard?

Hit it hard and hope you find it.

Wednesday Mid Week Medal 14/02/24

If you forgot it was Valentines’ Day and went to golf instead, that’s why she’s not talking to you. It’s too late now, what’s done is done. Good news is, it won’t be on a Wednesday next year. The rest is up to you.

76 starters for the comp but not every one made it around, the day turned out to be a depressing. Not only on course but also at the adjudicating later in the day. Needless to say, that issue has been resolved, with sincere apologies to those concerned and as a reminder any future issues/queries will not be entertained without written documentation. The committee take full responsibility on this occasion and hopefully we can all move on.

The comp was the first of our Wednesday medal days and was really hard work. So congratulations to our winners for their persistence as much as their skills.

Div 1 – Kev Bartlett (72) from Alan Simpson (73)

Div 2 – Elliot Pigury (69) from Wayne Hunter (71)

Rundown went to 74. Missed again Senior Sargent.

Pin shots –

2nd – Ray (now your talking) Mills & Elliot Pigury (good day all round)

7th – Sam Mumford & Tony Waller

12th – Josh Douglas & Mark Jessop

16th – Kim Thackeray & Geoff (the Kempsey Kid) Clarke

Pro pin – Kim Thackeray (nice $68)

The raffles – Dave (well oiled machine) Harrod, Mister Walter Fisk & Tim Pooley

In most medal games you start badly then fade away (or is that just me).

Lately I’ve found I don’t have to hit it hard and hope to find it I just have to hit it off the fairway.

Hit it hard and hope you find it!

Saturday Single Stableford 10/02/24

Fifty-seven hearty souls wandered out to the course on Saturday and thought while they were there they might as well have a game despite the weather. In actual fact there was not a lot of rain and the course was mostly dry where it counted. Just goes to show, don’t give up too early. We played a single stableford in Melbourne weather. It changed every five minutes, rain, wind, sunny, hot, humid and testing.

The results of this escapade were –

Div 1 – Patrick (Mr Nice Guy) Tregellas (38 Points) from Paul Praestiin (also 38 points)

Div 2 – Steve Salter (younger than Wil and rarely seen, good one Steve) – 38 points from Joel Davies with 37 points.

Run down went to 33 points.

Pin shots

2nd – Ross Prickett & The House

7th – Paul Praestiin & Steve Evans

12th – Nico Neidhart & Joel Davies

16th – Ray (now your talking) Mills & Steve Evans (again)

Pro pin – Joel Davies $55 (who were the two who didn’t go in it?)

The all-important raffle and this looks like a fix, went to Wayne Muir x 2, Mick Kemp x 2 and Captain Tink x 1. We might have to hold an inquiry. Jimmy Wood will head it up.

This Wednesday we will play for the long-awaited mid-week medal in two divisions and next Saturday will be a 4BBB with a single stab in conjunction. Get out and have a go, don’t be fooled by the weather.

Tink reckons the afternoon players had the rub this week but what does he know. He only played in the damp in the morning and the afternoon had all the conditions, see Melbourne above.

Golf – The more practice you need, the more practice you get.

Hit it hard and hope you find it.

Men’s Golf Wednesday 07-02-24

68 golfers weren’t scared of maybe getting wet and we didn’t. Another great day of not working, because you just know that a bad day’s golf is way better than a good day’s work.

Anyway, we had Les Browning win Div. 1 with a score of 37 points from Nigel (The Pirate) Luxton with 36 points. Nigel must be on a streak, that’s a Saturday win and a Wednesday runner up. Though he could be on the way down.

Div 2 was won by our old (as in ex) Captain Max Jessop (38 points) from Derryk Russell (36 points).

Run downs went to 33 points. One short again Senior Sargent.

Pins were –

2nd – Michael Druhala and James Cardoo

7th – Les Browning and John Edwards (no joke)

12th – Stuart Irving and Ken Walker

16th – Denis Crowe and Stephen Evans

Pro pin – Bryan Penny ($58)

The all-important raffles were won by 3 battlers, Terry Gosling x 1, Senior Sargent Perce Dempsey x 1 and The Prez Brent McLennan x 3. Still not up to Jimmy Wood’s standards.

Don’t forget AGM – 16/03/2024 @ 2.00pm and we are still after any photos, stories etc for our 40th anniversary.

The best wood in most golfers’ bag is the pencil.

Hit it hard and hope you find it.
