Final day of the rounds of Pennant golf, Team 1 took on Murwillumbah at Byron Bay. The weather was cold and bleak, with light showers of rain and strong winds making golf difficult. Murwillumbah won the day 6/1, Terry Foster and Michael Kemp both had squared matches.
Team 2 had a good day when they took on Ballina at Ocean Shores, recording their first victory. Banora ran out 4 1/2 to 2 1/2, with a good win by Richard Downes, 2/1, started the team off well. Jared Brown followed with a tight 1 up win and that was followed Joe Lehkyj with another 1 up victory. Michael Noakes squared his match and Captain Nigel Luxton brought it home winning 2 up.
Team 3 went to Lismore to play Mullumbimby, and needing a win to be assured of playing in next week’s Final. And for the 3rd week in a row the result was a 3 1/2 to 3 1/2 . But this was enough for us to go on and play Coolangatta in the Final next week. Tony Brown started the ball rolling with a 2 up win, and Jim Storey followed that with a 1 up win. Charlie Huff squared his match and Captain Wayne Muir had a great 5/3 victory.
Team 4 took on Lismore at Ocean Shores, and with both teams already assured of next week’s Final, this was played in good spirits as they new that next was what it was all about. Lismore won this match 5/2 but we are pretty confident that we can reverse this result and bring home the Flag. El President Brent McLennan brought home his 3rd straight win, 5/4 , and Jim Wood had a tight 2/1 win.
