June Mens Monthly Medal

The June monthly medal was finally played without preferred lies and the course almost back to perfect condition. There was alot of nice scores coming in throughout all the grades. Slow play held up the morning field, with a few groups, which made it a long day for those playing in the afternoon with some very late finishes crossing the bridge back to the island house. Please keep in mind. It’s the responsibility of the lowest marker in the group to keep the pace of play. You should always be behind the group infront and not let them get too many fairways ahead. Things do happen. Stroke rounds, Lost balls, going back to the tee if you have to hit again. It’s ripple effect from the morning players to the afternoon field. If you see your group falling behind, start encouraging your playing partners to get a move on, help find each other’s balls especially in the current wet course conditions we normally play in and ready golf etc.

I would just like to apologise to the following group of Bill Man, Steve Wilkinson, Tony Waller and Nathan Stockwell. You guys had a super quick round, just over 4hrs and the group infront of you did break the record for the fastest round of the year. There was no way you guys could of kept up that pace and my apologies for giving you a hurry up. Admittedly I didn’t have the full picture when I saw your group. Sorry Fella’s.

A new prize will be introduced in the Men’s competition for the Wednesday and Saturday comps. The prize will be for the best 9 hole score. You have to play 18 holes to be eligible. 1 prize winner per division. So if your having an amazing front Nine and then the wheels fall off the wagon on the back nine and think your out of contention for winning overall, there’s still a chance you might win a best 9 prize. Front or back nine, it dosnt matter but you can’t win this prize if your already placed 1st or 2nd in the days competition.

Mens NRDGA Pennant Update

MSG From NRDGA.

The weather Friday with forecasts for Saturday and Sunday has forced our hand, I must be a dreamer trying and hoping the weather forecast is wrong.

No full explanation required but course conditions, club bookings, carts, and player enjoyment considered.

After reviewing the above, I have decided to not use the possibility of 15th June. We will reschedule to October 26th 2025 where we were going to run a standalone 1 day team event, playing for the pennant flags.. More details closer.

Men’s NRDGA Pennant Update.

Round 2 scheduled for 24th June has been cancelled. Below is the email from the NRDGA Captain. The decision was made at midnight on Wednesday.

I started the following at 5.00pm tonight,Thursday. Yamba had 21mm in the previous 2 hours, 7 hours later now 143 mm. Maclean maybe not as bad and Grafton 60mm. Courses north of Ballina have missed the rain fortunately.

I have called off the 2nd round of the pennant. We have a few courses still closed, a few open with tee up. and even if they open a few without carts or are heavily restricted. We do not have enough courses with availability to reschedule matches

I notice we have had locally our annual average rainfall in less than 5 months. 1533mm or 61 inches.

We will now go to the Eisenhower Cup format on Sunday the 1st June. I am working on a draw and this will be circulated this week.

It has been suggested we look at moving the pennant, we have been down this track in the past but we always were trying for after September each year. With Club Championships, other major events and course renovations it never was a goer. The suggestion is we move it to a bit later, possibly July. In my almost 40years involvement in golf in the Northern Rivers we have had wet, and floods but I can only remember a couple being washed out and now 3 in 4 years

No Carts This Weekend. Competition Changes.

Due to the course still being very wet and underwater in some areas. The decision has been made to not allow carts or scooters on the course this weekend. This is to preserve the course and to minimise any further damage.

The following competitions have changed as followed.

Mens Competition 17th May, will be a walkers only Competition, with a Winner Takes all prize. You can either play 9 or 18 holes. The winner is decided by the best score for 9 holes.

Men’s Round 2 Matchplay has been postponed to the 24th May with weather pending. I will contact each member individually to set up tee times.

Sunday Mixed Competition 18th May. Rosie’s special golf day will now be pushed back to the 25th of May. We are going to try and transfer all booked in players for this Sunday and move them to next Sunday. Please check your tee booking over the weekend to confirm. More slots will be open to players wanting to join in Rosie’s golf day on the 25th May.

We are all hoping for the sun to come back and the course to get a chance to dry out. Long range forecasts don’t look promising. Fingers crossed.

Mens Captain.
