⛳ SATURDAY STABLEFORD – POINTS GALORE AT BANORA!

🏌️ FINALLY! GOLF, CARTS AND SOME GLORIOUS GREENS!

Well, would you believe it? We finally managed to get out on the course, play some golf AND have carts back on the fairways! Someone must have had a quiet word with the weather gods because it’s been a long time coming!

And how good are the greens looking? Absolutely spectacular! Beautifully green, rolling true and a real credit to the work being put into them. If you missed a putt today, I’m afraid you might have to find another excuse!

Unfortunately, finding a sand bucket proved considerably harder than finding the middle of the fairway! Some areas had sand but no buckets, while others had neither. Not exactly ideal when we’re all trying to look after the course.

A genuine thank you to everyone who kept their carts off the rough, repaired their divots and fixed their pitch marks. These little things make a tremendous difference, particularly with the course in its current condition.

We had 86 players take to the course today, and judging by the results, someone forgot to tell everyone that Stableford points are supposed to be difficult to earn!

It was an absolute POINTS BONANZA, with several scores breaking the magical 40-point barrier and the ball rundown stretching all the way to 36 points!

And once again, the morning players appeared to get the pick of the conditions. At this rate, the afternoon crew might start demanding a handicap allowance for surviving the weather!

🏆 DIVISION 1 – THE POINTS WERE FLOWING!

Phil Cook (18) put together a terrific performance, collecting 41 points to claim Division 1 honours and the $50 winner’s voucher. A fantastic effort, Phil!

Not far behind was Jack Malone (15), who returned an excellent 40 points to secure runner-up and a $35 voucher. Forty points and still finishing second! Tough crowd out there today!

🏆 DIVISION 2 – SOMEBODY CHECK JOHN’S SCORECARD!

Well, somebody certainly had their Weet-Bix this morning!

John Maconachie (25) produced the standout performance of the day with a whopping 45 points, comfortably taking Division 2 and the $50 winner’s voucher.

Forty-five points, John! That’s not a Stableford score, that’s a telephone number! Outstanding golf!

And spare a thought for Bill Mann (20), who put together a brilliant 42 points, only to discover that wasn’t quite enough to take the chocolates! Bill collected runner-up and the $35 voucher.

⚠️ A SERIOUS WORD ABOUT OUR RAFFLES

Unfortunately, we need to address an ongoing issue with our Saturday raffles.

Once again, the raffle money did not balance, with this Saturday’s collection being $13 short.

This is particularly disappointing, and frankly difficult to understand, considering raffle tickets are sold for $2 each. A $13 discrepancy simply does not add up.

This is not an isolated occurrence, and it needs to improve.

Please remember that our raffles are not simply about winning a voucher. The money raised contributes significantly towards funding our free golf days, Christmas parties, open bars and dry tills. These are benefits that all our members get to enjoy.

When money is missing from the raffle, it ultimately affects the funds available to provide these benefits.

We ask everyone to please:

• Ensure you place the correct amount of money in when purchasing tickets. Tickets are $2 each.
• Take a moment to count your money and tickets correctly.
• If you notice someone making a mistake, politely remind them of the ticket price.
• Above all, be honest and respectful towards your fellow members who consistently do the right thing.

It is unfair to the overwhelming majority of members who contribute honestly when the raffle continues to come up short.

We should not have to repeatedly raise this issue over something as straightforward as a $2 raffle ticket.

Please, let’s do better. These raffles are for the benefit of everyone, and we need everyone’s cooperation to keep them running successfully.

Wednesday Men’s Stableford – Weekly Golf Blog

Another Wednesday at Club Banora, and with the recent wet weather keeping everyone on their toes, it was another opportunity to test both the golfing skills and the patience of our regular Wednesday crew!

Despite whatever Mother Nature had in store, there were some excellent scores posted across both divisions, with plenty of competition for the top spots and a few familiar names collecting the prizes.

A big thank you to everyone who came along and supported the competition. Whether you finished with a voucher, a golf ball, or just another collection of stories about the ones that got away, it’s always great to see everyone out enjoying their golf.

Winners

Division 1

A fantastic performance from Alan Price (HC 18), who led the way with an outstanding 40 Stableford points, taking home the $40 winner’s voucher. Alan certainly had his game working beautifully, finishing three points clear of the chasing pack. Aaron Garland (HC 4) also produced some quality golf, securing runner-up honours with an impressive 37 points and collecting a $25 voucher. Well played to both!

Division 2

It was a much tighter affair in Division 2, with Jon Chugg (HC 24) and Wayne Muir (HC 22) both finishing on 37 points. Jon claimed the top honours on countback, collecting the $40 winner’s voucher, while Wayne secured the $25 runner-up prize. A terrific effort from both players, with absolutely nothing separating them on the scoreboard!

🏆 2026 MEN’S FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIP

27 Holes of fun, adventure, teamwork and the occasional test of friendship!

The 2026 Men’s Foursomes Championship certainly delivered another memorable day on the fairways of Club Banora! With 27 holes of alternate-shot golf ahead, players were reminded of the golden, unwritten rule of foursomes golf — NEVER say sorry to your playing partner! After all, you’re both in it together, through the good shots, the bad shots and those occasional moments when you wonder what on earth your partner was thinking!

Despite a week of wet and rainy conditions, we were greeted with some welcome sunshine and mostly clear skies, allowing everyone to enjoy a fantastic day of championship golf. Even a few light showers over the closing holes couldn’t dampen the spirits of those battling their way to the finish line.

A huge thank you to our wonderful grounds staff, who once again presented a magnificent golf course despite the challenging weather throughout the week. Their hard work, dedication and efforts behind the scenes certainly didn’t go unnoticed, and the course was a credit to them all.

With plenty of laughs, a few nervous moments, some brilliant golf and undoubtedly a few interesting conversations between partners, the day was a wonderful reminder of what makes foursomes golf such a unique and entertaining format.

Congratulations to everyone who took part, and especially to our 2026 Foursomes Champions!

🏆 The Beauties Bounce Back! Women Shatter the Men’s Streak to Claim the Al & Lyn Simpson Title

The banter was flying, the pressure was immense, and the stakes had never been higher for the 4th Annual Beauty vs. Beast Single Stableford Challenge. Walking onto the fairways on Sunday, 11th October, the big question echoing around the Club Banora Golf Club clubhouse was simple: Could the Beasts lock in a coveted hat-trick, or would the Beauties stage a fierce comeback?

We officially have our answer, and it is a glorious one for the ladies!

👸 Beauties Break the Beastly Streak!

Talk about a grandstand finish! Both fields brought their absolute A-game, and it was two standout cards that kept everyone on the edge of their seats all afternoon. Dale Park fired an incredible 41 points to anchor the field for the men, while Colleen Kelly matched him blow-for-blow with a spectacular 41 points of her own for the women.

With both heavy-hitters deadlocked, players were left guessing all afternoon as to which side would edge ahead. However, once the maths was done and the top 11 players of each gender were officially tallied up, the Beauties won the day with a thrilling 3-point victory!

By the narrowest of margins, the women officially shattered the men’s two-year winning streak and denied the Beasts their hard-fought hat-trick dream. With this sensational team effort, the ladies have brought home the prestigious Al & Lyn Simpson Title for the second time in the event’s 4-year history, perfectly evening out the historic ledger at 2-2.

⛳ Saturday Golf Blog — The Wind, the White Markers and a Minor Miracle!

What a Day on the Course & Gone With The Wind!

What a Saturday! The wind was absolutely crazy, 4-irons were snapping, golf balls were flying in directions that even their owners couldn’t explain, and somehow we managed to get through another competition with plenty of stories to tell.

We had a combined Blue and White marker Stableford competition, with some excellent scoring despite the conditions. Congratulations to all our winners and rundown recipients!

Now, let’s talk about the white and blue marker trial. I’m calling it a failure for today! Out of 77 players, only 12 decided to hit off the white markers. I genuinely thought that with the wind blowing its head off and the course playing a little shorter, more players would have jumped at the chance to take the easier option. Apparently, we have 65 golfers who enjoy making life difficult for themselves! 😂

And in other breaking news, someone apparently hasn’t lost a ball in 36 holes. That someone is me! For anyone who knows me, this is very close to a golfing miracle. Even better, not a single Titleist Pro V1 or Pro X has disappeared off the course and travelled into another universe. Long may this unbelievable run continue!

Well done to Steve Wilkinson, who led the White marker competition with 38 points off a handicap of 18.4 (16), earning the $50 voucher. 💙 Remembering Our Dear Friend, Kym Fiora

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of one of our much-loved members, Kym Fiora.

Kym was a long-standing member of Club Banora and a familiar, friendly face in our regular competitions. A solid and consistent golfer playing off a handicap of 19, Kym always seemed to be in the mix, whether he was picking up an NTP or featuring among the leaders on the leaderboard. He certainly knew his way around the course!

But beyond his golf, Kym was so much more than a fellow competitor. He was an absolute gentleman, and it was his quiet presence, friendly nature and the respect he showed others that made him such a valued part of our golfing community.

Golf clubs are about so much more than scores, handicaps and trophies. They are about the friendships we build, the laughs we share, the familiar faces we look forward to seeing each week, and the wonderful people who make our club feel like family. Kym was one of those special people, and his absence will be felt by so many.

While we will miss seeing him out on the course, lining up another shot or making his way onto the leaderboard, we will cherish the memories, the camaraderie and the moments we were fortunate enough to share with him.

On behalf of everyone at Club Banora, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Kym’s family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him during this difficult time.

Rest peacefully, Kym. Thank you for being part of our Club Banora family. You will be fondly remembered, deeply missed and never forgotten.

Club Banora Golf – Wednesday Wrap-Up

A Beautiful, Calm Day at Club Banora… Apparently!

What a magnificent day for golf at Club Banora! The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and there wasn’t a breath of wind to be felt.

Well, apart from the 35 km/h southerly wind that was doing its absolute best to relocate golf balls, hats, and possibly a few smaller members to northern Queensland.

Yes, it was another beautifully calm day at Club Banora, provided you were playing inside a building.

With the wind howling across the fairways, players were forced to dig deep, adjust their shots, and occasionally question why they hadn’t taken up indoor bowls.

But as always, the cream rises to the top. Or in Wednesday’s case, the cream was blown sideways across the fairway before eventually finding its way into the winner’s circle.

Winners – The Cream Rises to the Top

Division 1

Steven Warne (HC 10) proved that a little breeze was no match for quality golf, producing an excellent 39 points to claim victory. Peter McCray (HC 14) was right on his heels, also finishing with 39 points, but had to settle for runner-up honours. Two outstanding efforts in conditions where simply keeping your ball on the same postcode was considered an achievement.

Division 2

And then there was Paul Quinlin (HC 22).

Paul didn’t just win Division 2. He decided to show everyone how it was done, posting a magnificent 40 points, the best score of the day.

While others were battling the southerly, Paul appeared to have negotiated some sort of private arrangement with the weather gods.

Was it brilliant golf? Was it superior course management? Or was Paul still riding an emotional high after his beloved Sydney Roosters won their NRL final on the weekend?

The cream certainly rose to the top. Although whether it was talent, inspiration, or something in Paul’s morning coffee, we may never know.

Some mysteries are simply not meant to be solved.

Anthony Brown (HC 27) put together a solid 36 points to take runner-up honours, proving that even in Paul’s shadow there was still room for some respectable golf.

Important Notice – Saturday’s New White & Blue Tee Competition

This Saturday, 10 October, marks the first trial of our new White and Blue Marker competition format.

Before you pay for your round and competition fee, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tell Tim which tee markers you wish to play from – WHITE or BLUE.

Your handicap will be adjusted to suit your nominated tee, and separate competitions will operate for each set of markers.

Now, this is extremely important. Not just for the smooth running of the competition, but for the wellbeing of one very important individual….TIM.

Tim has personally requested that everyone make their tee selection crystal clear before paying, so he doesn’t have to repeat himself 150 times throughout the morning.

Apparently, he’s trying to preserve his amazing singing voice for the weekend.

And as we all know, a happy Tim is a happy Pro Shop.

Nobody wants a grumpy Tim. Nobody needs a grumpy Tim. And quite frankly, we’re not prepared to deal with a grumpy Tim.

So please, do your part. Nominate your tee, pay your money, and let the man save those precious vocal cords.
