LADIES GOLF RESULTS 24th SEPTEMBER – Canadian Two Stroke.

Blue skies, nothing but blue skies, well after a quick shower of rain at starting time, greeted our Ladies today, a lovely day to be out on the course.
26 Ladies made up the field with some good scores being recorded. The 1st/10th hole temporary tee is making the par 5 easy to play and I hear a lovely lady was on the 1st green in 2 today! Work is proceeding on the building of the new tee and it won’t be long before we will putting it to good use.
The Winners today with a score of 69 were Alison Blair and Viv Sulejmani , runners up were Maran Cooper and Nancy Douglas with 71. Well done ladies, good golfing on a lovely day!

Apart from the OBE winner all players will be in the usual competition. The usual pins are for all players.

After golf we will enjoy a tea/coffee, cold drink and cake provided by the Ladies Golf Club. OBE’s please wear a pink shirt if you have one .

Record breaking funds raised! Well Done to everyone!

What an absolutely amazing day for Jarrod Lyle Day! 💛

It was fantastic to see so many yellow shirts around the club and so many members making the effort to get behind such a special day. The atmosphere was brilliant, and there was a real sense of community from the moment everyone arrived.

And what a result! We raised a record-breaking $964 through the raffle and the incredibly generous donations from our Men and Ladies members. That’s a fantastic achievement and a wonderful way to honour Jarrod and continue to celebrate his legacy.

The course was in pristine condition, with some fun pin placements adding an extra challenge to the day. Full credit to Brando and the boys for presenting the course so well.

A massive shoutout to Galileo’s Pizza for supplying the pizzas after the round. As always, they were absolutely fantastic — you just can’t beat them! Thanks so much to Brad and Steve for getting that organised.

A huge thank you also goes to Twin Towns and Twinnies Gives for sponsoring the winners’ $50 vouchers. Your generosity and support are very much appreciated.

And a special thank you to all the ladies who joined our competition today. Being a Medley made it fantastic to see everyone getting involved and enjoying the day together.

It was also great to see Shane Vanderlight back out on the course and getting himself off the lounge despite that troublesome knee injury! There are a few theories floating around about the cause — some say it might be overuse of the golf simulator, while others reckon the whipper snipper might have had something to do with it! 😂 Either way, it was great to see you back out there, Shane.

The winning combination of Nathan Simpson, Liam Henzell, David Williams and John Tannahill put together an excellent net total of 56.250, with each playing off an HC of 9.75.

Close behind were Patrick Tregellas, Brendon Marshall, Wayne Muir and David Killion, who finished on 56.620, with each playing off an HC of 6.38. Congratulations to all eight players on a terrific result.

A Bittersweet Goodbye to the Old Layout

I hope everyone enjoyed what could be their last tee-off from the 1st and 10th on the current layout.

It was certainly a little sad for a lot of us who have loved having the only true par 5 on the course sitting there as part of the challenge. It’s a hole that has given us plenty of great memories over the years, and it will definitely be missed.

Now we look forward to the next chapter. Let’s hope the new par 4 proves to be a real challenge and continues to hold its place as Index 1 and 2.

All in all, what a way to celebrate Jarrod Lyle Day — great golf, plenty of yellow shirts, fantastic food, incredible generosity and, most importantly, a whole lot of people coming together for a great cause.

Lovely to see a good field of ladies out on the course today doing battle with the little white ball and a howling wind! The scores indicated that there was plenty of run and wind assistance to be had if you could keep the ball on the fairways. Winners today with a score of 47 were Pauline Benny and Christine Waghorn from Liz Edwards and Fiona Almond with a score of 46. Well done ladies.

Today we had our annual Tombola stall, thank you ladies for your generous donations of goodies. I’m sure everyone enjoyed selecting items from the table – everything you could think of was available from cakes to plants !!
Next week we will be playing from a temporary tee on the 1st and 10 th holes, please be careful moving onto the course as there will be a lot of work going on in this area. Ladies will still be playing the 1st and 10th as a Par 5. No eagles will be paid on these holes from the temporary tees.

1st and 10th Tee Changes: A Decision for Safety

Twin Towns has made the decision to change the location of the 1st and 10th tees due to ongoing safety concerns involving golf balls striking nearby homes.

For some time, residents in these houses have faced the risk of golf balls being hit onto their properties. This has raised legitimate concerns about the safety of residents, visitors and the homes themselves.

The tee changes are intended to reduce the risk of golf balls being hit towards residential properties and create a safer environment for everyone.

While changes to the course may take some adjustment for golfers, safety must remain a priority. Twin Towns believes these changes are a necessary step to address the ongoing issue and help protect the surrounding homes and residents.

We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all members and golfers as these changes are introduced.

The Board have met to determine the playing and membership fees effective from 1 October and in doing so have also considered your email below.

We certainly understand that costs of living are a burden for most of the community at this time, and the cost of business increases are also significant, and that combined with government rules restricting our ability to support the golf course from ClubGrant funding, the cost burden of the golf course is significantly greater and as a result price increases must reflect the cost of business.  Please note, that although prices will increase significantly again this year, the golf course continues to be a significant loss operation and is continuing to be supported by the Club with a significant subsidy.

The new golf fees, effective 1 October 2026, have been determined as follows:

⛳ New Local Rule — Holes 5 & 14

A Simple Change to Keep the Game Fair

There’s a new Local Rule to be aware of at Club Banora, and it applies specifically to the timber netting post positioned to the front left of the 5th and 14th tees.

The new rule is Local Rule E-11, and while it is very simple, it’s important that everyone understands exactly what happens if your ball comes into contact with the netting post.

🏌️ What Is Local Rule E-11?

Any ball that comes into contact with the timber netting post to the front left of tee #5 or tee #14 will require the shot to be replayed — with NO penalty.

In other words:

🎯 Hit the post = Replay the shot, no penalty!

There is no penalty stroke and no need to play the ball from where it finishes.

Simply replay the shot from the original location.

🤔 Why Is This Rule Needed?

The timber netting post is there for a practical reason, but it can create an unusual situation when a golf ball strikes it.

A ball hitting the post can produce an unpredictable result, potentially giving the player a significant advantage or disadvantage that has little to do with the quality of the golf shot itself.

Local Rule E-11 provides a straightforward and fair solution.

Rather than trying to determine what happened to the ball after the contact, the rule simply says:

Contact with the post = replay the shot.

And importantly, there is no penalty for doing so.

📍 Where Does the Rule Apply?

The rule applies to the timber netting post located:

  • To the front left of tee #5
  • To the front left of tee #14

It is specifically the timber netting post that triggers the rule.

So, if your ball comes into contact with that post, remember that Local Rule E-11 applies.

⚠️ What Should You Do?

If your ball strikes the timber netting post:

  1. Stop play on that ball.
  2. Confirm that the ball has contacted the relevant timber netting post.
  3. Return to the original location of the shot.
  4. Replay the shot.
  5. No penalty stroke is added.

It’s as simple as that.

This is a FREE DAY FOR MEMBERS ONLY, with an 8:00am shotgun start, plenty of prizes up for grabs and, most importantly, a chance for us all to get behind a fantastic cause.

After the golf, we’ll be enjoying pizzas from Galileo’s Pizza 🍕 and some light refreshments — because nothing helps you forget the four-footer you missed quite like beer & pizza!

💛 LET’S BREAK OUR FUNDRAISING RECORD!

This year, we’d love to smash our previous fundraising record for Jarod Lyle’s charity.

All proceeds from the raffle will be donated, and the more money we raise, the better — because our club also goes into the draw for the chance to WIN A GOLF CART! 🏌️‍♂️🚗

We’d also love everyone to throw in a gold coin donation before the commencement of play. The golf is free, there are loads of prizes to be won, so digging around in the car console for a gold coin shouldn’t hurt too much! 😂

So grab your team, wear yellow or something bright and cheery, bring a few dollars for the raffle and come along for a brilliant day of golf, laughs, pizza and fundraising.

🏆 The Legend of Brent McLennan

There are some days in golf when the stars align.

There are some days when the putts drop.

And then there are days when a 32-handicapper named Brent McLennan walks onto the first tee, looks across at a 9-handicapper named Jarod Brown, and thinks:

“Yeah… I’ve got this.” 😂

Welcome to the 2026 Club Banora Matchplay Championship—a contest that had all the ingredients of a classic David vs Goliath battle.

On one side stood Jarod Brown: the golfing equivalent of a finely tuned sports car. Handicap 9. Reliable. Dangerous. Capable of hitting golf shots that actually went where he intended.

And on the other side stood Brent McLennan: handicap 32.

Thirty.

Two.

A number so large it practically needed its own postcode.

But Brent had something Jarod didn’t have quite as much of—shots.

And plenty of them.

The Battle Begins

From the opening hole, it was clear this wasn’t going to be a walk in the park for either man.

Jarod knew he had to play his best golf. Brent knew he had to… well, essentially just keep turning up and let the handicap system do some heavy lifting.

Despite the enormous handicap difference, Jarod battled brilliantly and refused to let Brent’s army of shots dictate the match.

And after nine holes, unbelievably, the match was all square.

At this point, everyone watching was thinking the same thing:

“Surely Jarod has this under control?”

Apparently, nobody had told Brent.

Then the Magic Happened…

As the back nine unfolded, something strange began happening.

The shots started appearing.

And they weren’t just appearing—they were appearing at exactly the wrong moments for Jarod.

A hole that looked like it belonged to Jarod suddenly had a little asterisk next to it:

“Brent gets a shot.”

Jarod stared at the card.

Brent smiled.

The golfing gods chuckled.

And somewhere, deep in the bowels of Club Banora, a handicap calculator whispered:

“This is going to be fun.”

The 32-handicap magic had officially been activated.

Every time Jarod looked like he was gaining momentum, another shot seemed to materialise. Brent was no longer simply playing golf—he was conducting a carefully choreographed symphony of handicap-induced chaos.

Jarod fought valiantly, keeping the match alive far longer than anyone might have expected.

And that deserves enormous credit. Then came the moment when the handicap shots started doing what handicap shots were designed to do—cause maximum emotional damage to the bloke giving them away.

Playing off 9 against a player receiving 23 shots is no small task. Jarod showed tremendous resilience, skill and determination to stay in the contest for so long.

But eventually, the relentless combination of Brent’s golf, the pressure of matchplay and those precious handicap shots proved too much.

The Final Verdict

Golf can be cruel.

Golf can be strange.

And occasionally, golf can be absolutely hilarious.

Because when the dust settled, Brent had defeated Jared on the 16th Hole.

Jarod deserves huge respect for an outstanding battle and for keeping the match alive deep into the contest. Both players should be congratulated for producing an amazing match that had everything—drama, pressure, brilliant golf and, of course, enough handicap mathematics to make a university professor reach for a calculator.

But as they say in matchplay:

There can only be one winner.

And this year, that winner is…
