At the moment the course is in its worst condition it has been in the last 3 months. We have gone from a situation from last Wednesday of the course in its best condition in the last 3 months to now where it is in its worst condition in that time. This is the first time the course has been closed for a period of time since Anzac Day. The huge deluge of rain we experienced on Anzac day and days after looked to the naked eye that the course was completely flooded, however the water disappeared very quickly and we were back on track within 3 days so playing golf and carts being on course was still feasible at times.

Since then we have experience out of the ordinary rainfall constantly through the colder months which has caused frustration for the committee, members, grounds staff, pro shop and social players alike. A lot of members would be wondering why the course has been completely closed from Sunday, viewing things from afar and although things may look good from afar, when you get up close to the fairways and course in general things and conditions look far from good.

At the moment the course is unplayable and if you can all please see the attached photos this is how all fairways look when you get up close. Other things to consider is the current evapouration rates. Even though the pumps have been on sonstantluy they can only get so much water off the course and the rest relies on evaporation, As an example on Sunday 19th July the recorded rainfall at Coolangatta was 18.2 mm which was primarrily from Midnight until 7am. The rest of the day was completely sunny with high gale force winds which you would expect is great drying weather, however the total evapouration rate for the day was 3mm. If you take that into account that is still 15mm + of water that just does not dissappear.

The continual rainfall we have had since Sunday has been completely unexpected and has been even more detrimentle to the course in general. All grounds staff have been very reluctant to even drive our vehicles on course and picking our battles and focusing on making sure all drains are flowing. The only things being mowed at the moment are the greens and they are the best thing still looking on the course.

When the grounds staff have these situations we try to focus on other jobs required that you can’t do in the summer months and when the course is like this so we have been focusing on the continual face lift of the Island House which has been progressing at an alarming rate.

On a good note the forecast over the next 10 days looks very promisiing and we are hoping to present a great course for the Mens Chanpoinships beginning on Saturday 1st Auguist.

Saturday’s Medley Ambrose Fun Day Cancelled

Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this Saturday’s Medley Ambrose Fun Day.

After consulting with our grounds staff and assessing the course conditions, it is clear that the course has not recovered as quickly as we had hoped following the recent weather events. While the surface may appear to be improving, the ground remains extremely wet underneath. As a result, there is no possibility of allowing golf carts or mobility scooters onto the course this week, and several holes are still too wet to be safely and fairly played.

The safety of our members and the protection of the golf course must come first. We appreciate everyone’s understanding as we continue to work through the challenging conditions.

The good news is that the Medley Ambrose Fun Day will be rescheduled for later in the year, and we look forward to hosting the event when the course is back to its best.

This Saturday’s Competition

Instead of the Ambrose, we will be holding a Medley Single Stableford competition.

  • Walkers only – no golf carts or mobility scooters permitted.
  • Limited tee times available from 7:30 am to 9:30 am.

Thank you for your patience and ongoing support. We know many members were looking forward to the Ambrose, and we’re just as eager to run it when conditions allow. Ladies Golf – Thursday 23rd July

Due to the ongoing wet weather it was decided at our meeting today to transfer Pink Lady Day to next Thursday 3Oth July. This Thursday (if we are able to play ) will be a single stableford .
Names that are down for Pink Lady will be transferred as they were booked. This will be done when I can access the Pro Shop, hopefully tomorrow if the course is open.

We have decided to abandon the May and July Medals and hopefully play the August Medal as programmed .

Please keep up with the information on the Blogg , this wet weather makes it difficult to personally keep you informed of necessary changes.

IT SEEMS QUITE A WHILE SINCE I’VE DONE ONE OF THESE, SO THIS IS PROBABLY WAY OVERDUE.


I’M DOING THIS ONE TO BRING EVERYONE UP TO DATE WITH HAPPENINGS, PLANS AND SOME FRIENDLY REMINDERS.


 FINANCIALLY THE CLUB BANORA GOLF CLUB IS IN ITS STRONGEST POSITION SINCE THE EARLY 2000’S. THAT EXTENDS ACROSS VETS, LADIES AND MEN. TO THAT END YOU WILL SEE SOME UPCOMING EVENTS THAT WILL BE “FREE DAYS” FOR “MEMBERS ONLY”. WITH ADDED BONUSES SUCH AS EATS AND PRIZES. PLEASE SUPPORT THESE AS A LOT OF EFFORT GOES INTO SETTING THEM UP AND IT IS ONE OF THE FEW WAYS WE HAVE, TO PAY BACK, YOU THE MEMBERS FOR YOUR SUPPORT.


WE HAVE SUBMITTED A LIST OF RECOMMENDATIONS AND THOUGHTS TO IMPROVE THE COURSE AND CONDITIONS GOING INTO THE FUTURE. OBVIOUSLY SOME OF THESE WILL BE EASY FIXES AND OTHERS WILL TAKE TIME IF APPROVED. THE EASY ONES SHOULD BE HAPPENING IN THE NEAR FUTURE AS YOU WILL SEE.


IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN WHAT WE HAVE SUBMITTED AND WOULD LIKE TO ADD YOUR INPUT, CATCH UP WITH ONE OF THE COMMITTEE AND PUT YOUR THOUGHTS IN WRITING.


SOME OF THE ISSUES WE ARE DEALING WITH AT PRESENT.


 NEIGHBOURS DOWN THE 1 st /10 th FAIRWAY. BALLS INTO THEIR PROPERTY. SIMILAR TO THE ISSUES WE HAD WITH THE 5 th A FEW YEARS BACK. THIS IS CURRENTLY BEING INVESTIGATED AND I’VE ASKED THAT WE BE KEPT IN THE LOOP BEFORE ANY FINAL DECISION IS MADE.


 WE HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF ISSUES OF LATE HAPPENING ON AND AROUND THE PRACTICE FAIRWAY. FROM VISITORS, NON MEMBERS AND ANOTHER INTERNAL CLUB THAT SOMETIMES USE THAT AREA. WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT NEW FIBRE OPTIC CABLING IS BEING INSTALLED FOR THE MAINTENANCE SHED AND WHEN COMPLETED CCTV CAMERAS WILL BE INSTALLED IN THE AREA AND AROUND THE CART SHEDS. ON COMPLETION THE GATES TO THE PRACTICE FAIRWAY AREA WILL BE LOCKED AT ALL TIMES AND CART SHED OWNERS WILL HAVE A GATE CODE. ALL OTHER ENTRY TO THAT AREA WILL BE VIA THE PRO SHOP. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL SOLVE A LOT OF THESE CURRENT ISSUES.


 ALONG THE PRACTICE LINES YOU WILL HAVE SEEN SOME NOTICES REGARDING USING THE COURSE PROPER AND GREENS AS A PRACTICE AREA PRIOR TO PLAYING. TO REITERATE “ THIS IS A NO, NO” AND ANY FUTURE BREACHES OF THIS RULE WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION FROM THE DAYS EVENT.


 AS MENTIONED AT THE AGM, FAMILIARITY IS ONE DRAW BACK IN A SMALL CLUB, IN THAT EVERYONE ALMOST KNOWS EVERYONE ELSE AND THEREFORE FEEL THAT BOUNDARYS DO NOT APPLY WHEN SPEAKING TO OR ABOUT OTHER MEMBERS.


 THIS ATTITUDE HAS COME TO THE COMMITTEE’S ATTENTION RECENTLY WITH PARTICULAR CONCERN FOR OUR TWO MEMBERS WHO ARE ALSO PART OF THE COURSE MAINTENANCE STAFF.THESE MEN ARE FIRST AND FOREMOST MEMBERS OF CLUB BANORA GOLF CLUB AND MUST BE TREATED RESPECTFULLY AT ALL TIMES AS IS THE SITUATION WITH ALL OF OUR MEMBERS AND MATES. SUPPOSED GOOD NATURED RIBBING IS ALWAYS FUNNIER IN THE EYE OF THE DELIVERER THAN THE RECEIVER. SO, LETS STOP THIS UNNECESSARY BANTER AS IT IS BECOMING TOO PERSONAL AND EMBARASSING TO ALL.REMEMEMBER THEY ARE OUR MATES THAT ARE DOING A JOB AS THEY ARE TOLD TO DO AND DOING IT WELL. UNTOWARDS CONDUCT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND WILL BE TREATED HARSHLY.

Ladies Single Stableford Results 25th June

A good field of 27 ladies hit off today in a single stableford event under threatening skies. A beautiful rainbow appeared at the southern end of the course heralding a cool shower of rain. At times it was very icy out on the course, it is winter time.

The winner today was Denise Melling with a very good score of 38 pts. Runner up with 35 points was Nancy Douglas. Well done ladies, it was not easy out there today !!
Run down today included the following ladies – Liz Edwards 35; Diane Hughes 34; Marilyn Berryman 34; Colleen Kelly 34; Desley Harrington 34; Glenda Ballard 33; Coral Rasmussen 33;Myra Biggar 32; Kaye Mills 32; Christine Waghorn 32.

Next Thursday is July Medal, hopefully it will a nice fine day.

Lovely to see the course drying out, we just need the rain to stay away and we’ll have our lovely course back to normal in no time.

Ladies Golf – change of programme,

Good morning ladies, it has become necessary due to this awful weather to postpone our Capt v Pres day to a date to be decided. 25th June will now be a Single Stab, – If it’s wet next week for our June medal (18th June ) we’ll need to try again to run this medal, hence we need to keep 25th free.

Bookings will open shortly to play a Single Stab on 25th June.
