Mens Golf Saturday 25/03/23

Today we were greeted with a splendid Autumn day! A little bit of a southerly and some very receptive greens thanks to all the work Rodger and his staff put in during the week. A few trees have been removed and have opened up the 15th especially off the tee if you tend to go left. I know one of my playing partners is extremely happy about this (TF).

We had a Single Stableford today as well as our Match Play Championship qualifier. I will post the results of the qualifier tomorrow.

Winners today were Patrick Hayes (10) 41pts D1 and Kevin Berry (27) 46pts D2.

Runnerups Joe Lehkyj (15) 39pts D1 and Owen McCallum (19) 39pts D2

Ball rundown went to 35pts.

NTP’s

Division 1 Brian Springfield 7th, David Von Itzstein 16th

Division 2 Jack Fedden, 2nd Jimmy Wood 7th, Geoff Clarke 12th, Nathan Simpson 16th.

Pro Pin David Von Itzstein $70

Banora Point Real Estate Lucky Draw Wayne Woodford $20

Raffles Dave Harrod $25 Stevie Caine $25 Nigel Luxton $25 Wayne Woodford $25 and Wayne Muir $25

I’m filling some big shoes stepping into this roll and I promise I will do my best at all times. There are many people that have stepped up and are willing to help me but I must point out the behind the scenes work that Wayne, Barry and Tim do. These three deserve much more credit than they are given so please thank them next time you see them.

I’ve been trying to find a catchy sign off like Kev had ( Hit em long and hit em straight) so I will sign off with the Saturday 7.42am motto.

Hit it hard and hope you find it!

MENS GOLF SATURDAY A.G.M. 18/3/23

Very hot conditions greeted us today for our Single Stableford shotgun start, followed by the A.G.M..

Some very good scores were recorded, 9 players played to par or better.

Today’s winners were Macca McGuiness (20) 41pts. Runnerup Barry McFadden (33) 38 c/b.

Ball rundown went to 33pts.

NTP’S 2nd John Edwards. 7th Garry Dowding. 12th Michael Tink-Hornett. 16th Barry McFadden.

Ladies 16th Louise Carpenter.

Raffles Perc Dempsey $25. Barry McFadden $25. Stephen Caine $25. David Harrod $25. Robert Duncan $25. Wayne Muir $25.

Joke of the day.

Three guys Wayne, Mick and Kevin, were on the first tee waiting for Alan, who they could see in the distance limping, as he pushed his golf Buggy to join them. “Why are you limping Alan?” Asked Wayne as he reached the first tee. “It’s an old football injury.” “I didn’t know you played football Alan, asked Mick.” “Oh, I don’t. I hurt my foot last year when I lost $1,000 on the Grand final, then I put my foot through the TV.

Paddy had been drinking at his local Dublin pub all day and most of the night, celebrating St. Patrick’s day. Mick, the bartender says, “You’ll not be drinking anymore tonight, Paddy. Paddy replies, “Ok Mick, I’m not as thunk as you drink I am, but I’ll be headed home now before the Mrs gets home.” Paddy spins around on his stool and steps off. He falls flat on his face. “Fock” he says, and pulls himself up the stool and dusts himself off. He takes a step towards the door and falls flat on his face, “Fock me, now that’s gonna leave a mark!” He looks to the doorway and thinks to himself that if he can just get to the door and some fresh air, he’ll be fine. He belly crawls to the door and shimmes up the door frame. He sticks his head outside and takes a deep breath of fresh air, feels much better and takes a step out onto the sidewalk and falls flat on his face. “By Jeebers …. I’m a little more crocked than I thunk, he says.” He can see his house just a few doors down the road, and he crawls to his front door, hauls himself up the door frame, opens the door and shimmes inside. He takes a look up the stairs and says, “No damm way.” So he crawls up the stairs to his bedroom door and says, “I can make it to bed.” He pulls himself up, takes a step into the room and falls flat on his face again. “Fock this!!! He moans as he crawls into bed. The next morning, his wife Jess, comes into the room carrying a cup of coffee, and says, “Get up Paddy. Had a bit too much to drink last night did ya?” Paddy says,”I did, Jess. I was really crocked, but how’d you know?” Mick phoned ….. you left your wheelchair at the pub again.

Thanks to everyone, I hoped you enjoyed the jokes I’ve been putting up. It’s been great fun being Captain for the last 3 years, if I could do it again, I wouldn’t change a thing.

See you on the course

MENS GOLF WEDNESDAY 15/3/23

What a great day, blue sky’s, humid, and a nice breeze in the afternoon. When scoring your card, you must have 2 lots of scores. You have the team you are scoring, and you have your teams score. As card checkers, we need to have both scores, if we have a score which we can’t read properly, then we can look up the other teams card to correct the problem.

The PENNANT season is just about on us. I have put up the sheets in the scoring room. Players who are interested in playing Pennant golf, put your name and details on the sheets provided. The PENNANT season will be on, Sunday May 14, May 21, and May 28, with the final on Sunday June 4 Get your mates together and put your name’s down and let’s represent Club Banora.

Don’t forget this Saturday is our AGM. For those playing in the morning, make sure you are at the course by 7.30 and ready on your starting TEE for a 8am Hit off.

Division 2. 2nd House. 7th Stephen Smith. 12th Gary Roach. 16th Darren Hubery.

Joke of the day

Three mischievous old Grandmas were sitting on a bench outside a nursing home, when old Grandpa John, walked by. And one old granny yelled out saying, “We bet we can tell exactly how old you are.” John said, “There’s is no way you can guess it, you old fools.” The second old lady said, “Sure we can! Just drop your pants and under shorts and we can tell your exact age.” Embarrassed just a little, but anxious to prove they couldn’t do it, John dropped his drawers. One of the old Grannies asked him to first turn around a couple of times and jump up and down several times. Then the three of them all piped up and said, “You’re 87 years old! Standing with his pants down around his ankles, John asked, “How in the world did you guess?” Slapping their knees and grinning from ear to ear, all the old girls happily yelled in unison …. “We were at your Birthday party yesterday!”

MENS GOLF SATURDAY 11/3/23

How lucky were we. The weather forecast for today was for 20 – 40mm of rain, but instead we had great weather, but the humidity was about 95%, and it took a lot out of you, but in saying that, we still had 6 players evened or bettered their handicap.

Only 75 players today, looks like some took notice of the forecast, and we had no visitors, looks like they have all gone home, but that won’t be for long, as we will get the Victorian’s soon.

At the time of printing, there was still 5 spots available for next Saturday. Don’t forget that next Saturday is our AGM and our golf starts at 8am Shotgun Start. So be here no later than 7.30am.

Single Stableford 2 Divisions today, and the winners were …

Division 1. Kim Hall (15) 39pts. Runnerup Michael Tink-Hornett (7) 37pts.

Division 2. Graeme Johnson (22) 41pts. Runnerup John Baddeley (21) 39pts.

Ball Rundown went to 34pts.

I’m not saying my game needs a complete overhaul, but, I had to re-grip my ball retriever twice last year.
