🏌️ September Monthly Medal — Plenty of Run, Plenty of Banter!
The September Monthly Medal has been run and won, and once again the morning players have shown the afternoon crew exactly how it is done. There is becoming a rather uncomfortable pattern here — perhaps the early starters have discovered something the rest of us haven’t, or perhaps they’re simply getting all the good weather before the sun, wind and golf course decide to have a laugh at everyone’s expense.
The course was in excellent condition for the September Monthly Medal, with plenty of run on the fairways and some nice, but fair, pin placements. It was a great day for stroke play, although judging by some of the scores, “fair” doesn’t necessarily mean “easy”!
🏆 Winners — HC by Division
Division 1
Dean Love took the Division 1 Net honours with a superb 66, playing off a handicap of 5. David Killion followed in second place with a very tidy 73 off his handicap of 7. In the Gross event, Gary Tozer took the chocolates with 81 Gross with a handicap of 3. A very respectable effort — particularly considering the rest of us were probably still trying to remember where we put our putter or finding a lost ball.
Division 2
Bryan Penny was the man to beat in Division 2 Net, finishing 68 off a handicap of 19. Graham Cron wasn’t far behind, claiming second with 69 off 14. In the Gross event, Michael Davies took the gross win with an 86, playing off 13.
Division 3
John McLoughlin picked up the Division 3 Net victory off a handicap of 26 with a score of 68, while Colin Norton finished runner-up with a very solid 70 off 23. Nick Lawler claimed the Division 3 Gross prize with a 94 off a handicap of 20.
Congratulations to all of our division winners and place-getters. Plenty of good golf on display and, importantly, plenty of opportunities for everyone else to explain why their score wasn’t quite as good as it should have been.

The ball rundown was hotly contested, with Anthony Brown and Bob Myers leading the charge at 70. After that, the field settled into a respectable collection of even-par and 71-73 scores. Not quite enough to threaten the winners, but certainly enough to keep the ball bucket busy.

A special mention to Dave Williams, who not only managed to win the Pro Pin but then apparently decided that being nearest to the hole wasn’t quite enough. He followed it up with a four-putt.
That’s elite-level consistency: winning the Pro Pin and then immediately demonstrating that distance control is clearly overrated. 😂
🌊 The Return of Kemps Creek
And speaking of questionable course management, we had Wayne Muir attempting to recreate the magic of “Kemps Creek” today.
Only this time, Wayne had clearly done some off-season training, successfully achieving both of the key objectives:
- Getting the ball back out.
- Not falling in.
That’s what we like to call progress.
No word yet on whether the ball actually wanted to come out, but Wayne got the job done and lived to tell the tale. Thankfully, video footage is available on request — because some moments are simply too good not to preserve for future generations of the club.
