The Benny Duo Blazes to Victory in Sunday’s Canadian 2 Stroke!

It was a picture-perfect winter’s day for the Sunday Mixed Canadian 2 Stroke, proudly sponsored by Judy and Ken Mount. Players were greeted by beautiful, cool sunshine, and with the course drying out beautifully and looking in absolute top-tier condition, the stage was perfectly set for some low scoring.

In the Canadian Foursomes stroke-play format, it was the powerhouse pairing of P. Benny and S. Benny who truly made the most of the great conditions. Playing off a 15 daily handicap, the duo put on a clinic to fire a spectacular net 64 (-7), clearing the field by two clear strokes.

The Leaderboard Highlights

The Winners: P. Benny + S. Benny took top spot with a blistering 7-under-par net 64.
The Runners-Up: Vincent + Rasmussen mounted a serious challenge off their 22 handicap, carding a brilliant net 66 (-5) to secure second place.
The Steady Finishers: K. Springfield + B. Springfield showed great consistency playing off an 11 handicap, grinding out an even-par net 71 to claim third.
Rounding out the Top 5: Ryan + Jessop (+2) and the Cooper duo (+3) kept themselves firmly in the mix with solid rounds to finish fourth and fifth respectively.

Sharpshooters on the Greens: Nearest to the Pins

The competition was fierce across the par threes, with the Nearest to the Pins shootout proudly sponsored by Ali and Tony Blair. A special shout-out to Kaye Mills, Paul Pring, and Pauline Benny, who all managed to clean up multiple prizes on the day!

Championship Done and Dusted

What a championship it was! There were telagraph pole being hit golf balls, players disappearing into mud swamps, and even partners who normally play together deciding to play apart — only to go out and have the games of their lives! We even had a playoff thrown into the mix. Overall a fun and entertaining day.

Despite all the recent rain, the course was in beautiful condition, and full credit has to go to Brandon and the boys in the big green shed for keeping everything looking so good.

Another championship done and dusted, and congratulations to everyone who took part.

Winners by Division

Division A – Gross: Garry Dowding took the honours with an impressive 309 (0), collecting the $100 voucher. Aaron Garland was runner-up with 312 (6) and picked up the $75 voucher.

Division A – Net: Patrick Ganet finished on top with 288 (11) to take the $75 voucher, with Michael Kemp recording 292 (7) for the $50 voucher.

Division B – Gross: John Faust claimed the division with a playoff with 352 (14) and the $100 voucher. Charles Huff also returned 353 (13) to take the $75 voucher.

Division B – Net: Mitch Taylor came out on top with 288 (16), earning the $75 voucher. Les Browning followed with 292 (17) for the $50 voucher.

Division C – Gross: Darren Hubery led the way with 380 (20) and collected the $100 voucher. Tony Waller finished with 382 (21) for the $75 voucher.

Division C – Net: Rick Downes claimed the division with 292 (23) and the $75 voucher, while Steve Salter finished on 295 (24) to take the $50 voucher.

A Special Mention

And a big shout-out to Aaron Garland, who had an outstanding 73 off the stick in A Grade and looked solid all day.

Aaron, it looks like Kyle has been holding you back all these years, mate! 😂

14th Hole..Michael Kemps ball gently rested just inside the water hazard and we all gave great advice to just go for it. The shot happens, it’s miss hit and Kempy falls forward into the swamp of no return. It took Dave Killions 5 iron to pull him out. No animals were harmed in this rescue mission.

Saturday Golf Results — 22 August 2026

It was another enjoyable day on the course, with some excellent scoring across the Stableford and Daily Stroke competitions. Congratulations to everyone who picked up a voucher, balls or one of the special prizes. There was plenty of quality golf on display, with strong performances at the top and a healthy list of players rewarded in the rundown.

1 Division Stableford

Overall Stableford: Kyle Harrison took the honours with an outstanding 44 points off a handicap of 15.5 (15), earning the $50 winner’s voucher. Bronte Smith followed with 39 points off 19.8 (20) to collect the $35 runner-up voucher.

DAILY STROKE

Division 1 – Stroke: Aaron Garland was recorded as the winner, receiving the $50 voucher with a 67 off 7.5 (6). Patrick Ganet collected the $35 runner-up voucher with 66 off 12.2 (11).

Division 2 – Stroke: Bill Mann was recorded as the winner, receiving the $50 voucher with a 74 off 19.0 (19). Paul Quinlin collected the $35 runner-up voucher with 73 off 24.2 (25).

2026 Club Banora Match Play Championship: David vs Goliath

After weeks… no, months… of waiting, the moment has finally arrived.

The course has been set. The fairways are ready. The greens are running true. And the pins have been placed in positions so diabolical that you’d think the greenkeeper had a personal grudge against both finalists.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the 2026 Club Banora Match Play Championship Final is upon us.

And what a final we have in store.

The Road to Glory

On one side we have Jared, who has fought his way through a formidable line-up, defeating Jim Storey, Terry Foster and Will Salter to earn his place in the final.

On the other side stands Brent, who has dispatched Darren Hubery, Simon Woolley and Simon Gates on his march towards championship glory.

Both have battled. Both have survived. Both have sacrificed countless golf balls along the way.

But there is just one small problem for Jared…

He has to give Brent 23 shots!

Twenty-three.

2-3.

That’s not a handicap adjustment. That’s practically a head start to the clubhouse.

The odds are stacked firmly against Jared. Brent could theoretically spray tee shots into the neighbouring postcode, three-putt every green and still have enough shots up his sleeve to make things extremely interesting.

It is, quite literally, David versus Goliath.

Except in this version, David has a golf handicap and Goliath gets 23 shots.

Can Jared Pull Off the Impossible?

Jared will need to bring his A-game, his B-game, his C-game and possibly a few games he hasn’t even invented yet.

He’ll need fairways. He’ll need putts. He’ll need nerves of steel.

And most importantly, he’ll need Brent to have a day where the golf gods decide to send him a strongly worded letter.

Meanwhile, Brent simply needs to do what every golfer dreams of doing: play sensible golf and let the handicap system do the heavy lifting.

With 23 shots in the bank, Brent could be walking around Club Banora like a man who has already found the cheat code.

But this is match play.

Anything can happen.

A birdie here. A duff there. A heroic recovery shot. A putt that somehow refuses to go in. A golf ball mysteriously disappearing into a bush despite being hit absolutely nowhere near it.

And suddenly, the mighty Goliath can find himself in trouble.

The Final

So, after months of anticipation, the stage is set.

Jared vs Brent.

David vs Goliath.

Scratch-ish golfing pride vs 23 very valuable shots.

The pins are evil. The pressure is enormous. The bragging rights are priceless.

One player will walk away as the 2026 Club Banora Match Play Champion.

The other will walk away wondering how on earth he managed to lose to someone who was given 23 shots.

Whatever happens, one thing is certain:

There will be excuses.

Lots of excuses.

May the best golfer win… and may Jared remember that if he loses, he was only beaten by 23 shots.
