Medley Single Stab 14/3/26

The day featured a mix of sunshine and scattered cloud, with a light easterly breeze around 15–25 km/h helping keep conditions pleasant. Humidity remained moderate and there was only a small chance of showers, meaning most of the day stayed dry. Only a small field today of 60 players which included 2 ladies.

The Return of Shane Vanderlight

Every golf club has its legends, its characters… and then there’s Shane Vanderlight.

For a while there, members had started to wonder if Shane had quietly retired from Saturday competitions. Some believed he had taken up the Pro Tour on the golf sims. One rumor even suggested he’d been recruited by NASA to calculate wind direction on the 12th tee.

But then… this Saturday… he returned.

The parking lot buzzed with whispers.

“Is that him?”
“Can’t be… surely not.”
“Look — he’s got golf clubs.”

Yes, it was true. Shane Vanderlight had made his long-awaited comeback to the Saturday competition.

By the time Shane reached the 12th hole, the crowd sensed something brewing. With laser-like focus (and possibly a little luck), he stepped up to the tee and produced a shot so pure it made everyone stop and watch.

The ball sailed gracefully through the air… landed softly… and rolled to a beautiful Nearest-to-the-Pin position.

Cheers erupted. High fives were exchanged. Someone in the group claimed they “knew he’d do it.”

Shane himself simply nodded, as if this sort of thing happened all the time.

By the end of the round the verdict was clear: Shane Vanderlight was officially back in the Saturday competition. The swing might still be warming up, the scorecard might have a few artistic interpretations of golf, but the comeback had been made — and the NTP on the 12th was proof enough.

Rumour has it he’s already planning his next return. Next Saturday. Assuming, of course, if its preferred lies and all bunkers GUR ⛳😄

Jokes aside, Welcome back Shane!

Division 1 produced some very solid scoring. Terry Foster (10) led the way with a strong 38 points to claim the top prize and in the winner’s circle again. Close behind was Nick Davis (18), finishing runner-up with 37 points after a consistent round that kept the pressure on throughout the day.

Division 2 Winners

Division 2 was extremely tight at the top with matching scores. Stephen Robinson (25) secured the win with 38 points, edging ahead on countback. Bob Myers (23) also returned an excellent 38 points to take the runner-up position after a very competitive round.

THURSDAY March 12th

Thursday Ladies Stableford – 12 March 2026

It was another terrific Thursday on the fairways at Club Banora, with perfect golfing weather and plenty of laughs along the way. The course was in fine condition and the competition proved to be tight, with scores bunching at the top and several players finishing on the same points total. Countbacks were the order of the day, proving once again that every shot counts!

Leading the field was Coral Rasmussen, who claimed the win with a very solid 33 points, edging out Keryn Ashton, also on 33 points, on countback to take the Runner Up prize.

The ball rundown was well supported with a group of players finishing on 33 and 31 points, showing just how competitive the day was. Congratulations to Vivienne Sulejmani, Colleen Kelly, Kaye Mills, Kathryn Colsell, Christine Waghorn, Maren Cooper, and Denise Culpitt, who all picked up rundown vouchers.

The Nearest the Pin winners were sharp with their irons:
Vivienne Sulejmani – 7th Hole Div 1
Diane Hughes – 7th Hole Div 2
Kaye Mills – 16th Hole Div 1
Glenda Ballard – 16th Hole Div 2

Vivienne also showed her precision to claim the Pro Pin prize on the 7th hole.

The raffle winners were Mary Swanson, Kaye Mills, and Peggy Williams, adding a little extra excitement to the afternoon.

Well done to all the winners and thanks to everyone who came along for another enjoyable Thursday of golf. 🏌️‍♀️
